Beith CDT
About this project
Beith Community Development Trust firmly believes the health, wealth and happiness of our community lies within our own power. With the opportunity and the motivation it is possible to design a different future for your community and we would encourage people to step up to the challenge. Our motto throughout has been, ‘when we get fed up talking about it, people have only just started to listen’.
How we got here:
In 2009 it was clear that the future for groups and clubs organizing football and sport related activities in Beith was bleak. Local sports facilities had fallen into dereliction over the years and many clubs were folding as they struggled with the financial impact of sourcing and travelling to external venues, however parents, families and volunteers refused to give up on their passions and it was decided that in the absence of possibility of it changing being seen, they would just have to make things change themselves.
Groups and clubs united in a shared alliance that led to the development of Beith Community Development Trust which took up the mantle of making the changes that the community wanted to see – quality sports facilities in Beith.
A feasibility study, a series of community consultations and lobbying of decision makers led to financial commitments totaling £360000 - £80k from in-kind support from local people and business and the remainder as part of a partnership agreement with North Ayrshire Council that sees Beith Community Development Trust take over the lease of sports facilities in Beith which including a synthetic pitch, changing pavilions, 2 grass pitches as a sustainable enterprise that generates a core income which will be invested in the community of Beith for social benefit.
